CWG 2010 New Delhi

Dear Friends & Family,

Delhi had the honour to host the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2010 recently (3-14 October).

Some facts about CWG versus Olypmic Games:
21 sports
54 countries (71 teams)
+/- 7.000 athletes

28 sports
204 countries
+/- 11.000 athletes (Beijing 2008)

Although the bad publicity in the international press just before the games about chaos, unfinished stadiums, dirty athlete rooms, … we can proudly say that CWG 2010 were a huge success, especially the opening and ending ceremonies were magnificent. India had a goal to win 100 medals and they achieved their goal (101 medals) and finished second after Australia with one golden medal more than England although they won 143 medals.

I had the honour to give my comments live on Studio Brussel on Tuesday October 5th (thanks Linde). The line cut unfortunately down after a couple of minutes before I could finish the interview. (For those who want to listen the interview again, just go to: http://outpost.vrt.be/privemp3/0D456DB1_privemp3_20101005110344000.htm). Our experience was very positive, and you can’t imagine how proud most of the Indians are about their games.
